Spoiler: even though we loved this coffee shop, we didn't love everything about it!
Nestled right in the heart of downtown Jackson, Wyoming, Snake River Roasting is a coffee shop that’s as charming as the town itself. When you step inside, you’re greeted by an open, bright, and airy vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee, indulging in a pastry, or settling in for some work, this spot has something special to offer.
The Atmosphere: Bright, Cozy, and Work-Friendly
The interior of Snake River Roasting is a standout. Its open, light-filled space creates a welcoming environment that feels both modern and cozy. One of the best features? The upstairs seating area, which is perfect for getting a little work done. Whether you’re answering emails or diving into a creative project, the quiet, comfortable space makes it easy to focus while still soaking in the coffee shop’s vibrant energy.
The Coffee and Drinks: Hits and Misses
When it comes to the coffee, Snake River Roasting is FIRE. Their drip coffee is excellent—rich, smooth, not over roasted or bitter, and exactly what you want to kickstart your morning. I tried their Ethiopian light roast with it's beautiful berry and floral forward notes. It was so perfect I bought two bags. It's the kind of roast I think about the night before and go to bed early for so I can get up and have it again. Excellent. However, not all drinks hit the mark. We tried their London Fog, which, while pleasant, didn’t quite live up to expectations. It seemed to lack the classic Earl Grey tea flavor, leaning more toward a generic herbal tea vibe. It was okay, but not something I’d rave about. The chai, unfortunately, was a bigger miss—described as flavorless, like watery milk with just a hint of cinnamon. If you’re a chai lover, you might want to stick with the coffee.
The Pastries: A Sweet Sensation
Now, let’s talk about the real stars of the show: the pastries. Snake River Roasting’s baked goods are nothing short of phenomenal. The weekly special, a sugar donut sliced open and filled with a huge amount of strawberry goodness similar to frosting, but not quite as sweet., was an absolute delight—soft, sweet, and perfectly indulgent. The glazed donut was equally impressive, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that left me wanting more. But the true standout? The huckleberry donut. Hands down, it’s the best donut I’ve ever tasted. Bursting with that iconic Wyoming huckleberry flavor, it’s a must-try for anyone visiting the shop.
The Vibe: A Perfect Jackson Gem
The overall vibe at Snake River Roasting is what makes it such a gem. It’s the kind of place where you can feel the pulse of Jackson—lively yet laid-back, with a touch of local charm. Whether you’re a local looking for a reliable coffee spot or a visitor exploring downtown, this place feels like a warm hug in coffee shop form.
Final Thoughts
Snake River Roasting is a downtown Jackson must-visit. With its prime location, bright and inviting atmosphere, and some of the best pastries you’ll ever taste, it’s a spot that’s hard to beat. While the chai and London Fog might not steal the show, the drip coffee and those incredible donuts more than make up for it. Next time you’re in Jackson, grab a huckleberry donut, settle into the upstairs seating, and soak in the vibes—you won’t be disappointed.
